Abstract

Water resource scarcity and inefficient land management are major challenges in the agricultural sector, particularly in food crop cultivation. This research aims to design, implement, and test the performance of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based automated drip irrigation system to optimize water use efficiency and increase crop productivity. The research method involved hardware design using a microcontroller and soil moisture sensor, as well as software development for real-time data monitoring. System testing was conducted on cultivated land for one planting cycle to measure sensor accuracy, water consumption efficiency, and its impact on plant vegetative growth. The results showed that this IoT-based automated irrigation system performed precisely, with a sensor reading accuracy of 95%. The system implementation resulted in up to 35% reduction in water volume compared to conventional manual irrigation methods. Furthermore, this automation maintained consistent soil moisture levels in the plant root zone, contributing to a 25% increase in operational labor efficiency. The study concluded that the integration of IoT technology into drip irrigation systems is an effective solution to support precision agriculture and sustainable food production.
